Fun with Hair

I was bored one night the other week so I thought I'd play around with Abigail's hair. A number of months ago I attempted bantu knots but they didn't really turn out because Abigail messed around with them, they got wet in the bath, and some fell out during the night. I thought since Abigail was older she would be able to resist the temptation to mess with them. Plus, I waited until after her bath and right before bed to put them in.

I followed the directions, though I think I twisted her hair a bit too tightly. My poor girl was a bit uncomfortable, but she didn't make a big fuss about it.

At one point after I put the girls to bed I had to go help one of them with something. I found Abigail on her belly with her hands holding her head, elbows on the pillow. She didn't want to lay on her head. So, I showed her how she could lay on her side with little discomfort.

The next morning all of her knots were still intact. We took them out and then split them up. I think it was worth the trouble, I'll just make them a bit looser the next time. Or, I might try another idea I saw, which ended up being maybe 5 or so knots resulting in a more wavy hair look.

A Journey Through Time

I got my hair cut two Saturdays ago. It was a big step for me, because I basically had it chopped off. I can put it behind my ears, but a ponytail is out of the question. It has been so long since I've had my hair short. I took a trip down memory lane via school pictures and my hair doesn't seem as bad as I made it out to be, but some of my "styles" sure were funny.

Cute pigtails and messy bangs
Look at that cute kindergartener
I think the hairstyle is as wild as the shirt
My eyes are puffy from all the crying I did when my Mom made me get a haircut right before this picture was taken.
This was in Hawaii, where Mom let me where my hair long.
Another Hawaii school picture
I don't have a picture, but imagine this hair style, even shorter, but still with a puffy headband strategically holding back half of my bangs. I was pretty cool.
Ugh (1) High school and (2) curly bangs
This was in college, I didn't want curly bangs, but was too uncomfortable with no bangs, so I straightened them - just the bangs.
How I've been wearing it the past 7 years, plus or minus an inch or two.
And now...the shortest it has been in quite some time.

Kind of, but not Really

Today has been a laid back day so far. I decided to have a little fun with Abigail's hair and gave her pigtails since it has been a while.

So Sarah wouldn't feel left out I thought I would attempt to give her pigtails as well. The hair in the back of her hair is growing nicely. The hair on the top though? Not so much. I managed two pigtails in the back, then Abigail suggested I put one on top. So, I can kind of put Sarah's hair up, but not really.

It's funny because when I was finally able to put Abigail's hair up I had to leave her hair in the back down because it wasn't long enough. I guess Sarah just wants to be different.

Fun with Scissors

Abigail has been using kid-friendly scissors on and off for about a year now. For the most part she likes cutting paper into confetti-sized pieces. It's a bit messy, but it keeps her occupied when I need to do a chore of some sort. She also uses her scissors for some of her homeschool activities and is getting quite proficient at using them.

Sometimes Sarah gets a hold of Abigail's scissors and goes straight for our countdown chain. I've had to repair that silly thing quite a few times now. I guess Sarah thinks she can speed up the waiting process by cutting the chain to pieces!

This brings me to our amusing story. Yesterday I was in the middle of cooking dinner and checking things out online (I have to be honest with you all). I could hear the sound of scissors scissor-ing in the other room. I immediately called out for Sarah to stop cutting the chain. It was then when I saw Abigail in my doorway, scissors in hand, up in her hair! Her hair that she took almost two years to grow enough for
pigtails!

I ran straight for her and the scissors and tried to assess the damage. She ended up cutting a decent amount of hair, though not to the point where the untrained eye would notice it. She did this one handed, so she ended up "thinning" her hair out rather than chopping it off.
Needless to say, this made for an interesting conversation with Daddy while he was at work - and it is another thing we can laugh about now that it's over.

Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

I have had longer hair for quite some time, ever since I had it cut boy short in the fifth grade. I always hated having short hair as a kid, but it was easier to take care of that way.

I thought about having all my hair "chopped off" when I was pregnant with Sarah. My Mom suggested I hold off until I was no longer pregnant-I could regret my decision that may have been driven by hormones. So now Sarah is 3 1/2 months old and I still wanted a change. This may or may not be related to the fact that I'll be entering my thirties tomorrow.

I got my hair cut this afternoon in a much different style than I'm used to. It is shorter in the back and longer in the front. Good thing is I think I like it so far.
