Less Than 100 Days!

As you can see from our Baby Ticker, we have less than 100 days until we welcome our baby into the world. I can't believe it! It seems like there is much to do and more belly to go before the big day. We've managed to clean the baby's room but have yet to furnish it. We also need to rap up our registry.

Next month Jonathan and I will take our childbirth class. With each new step in this process the fact that we are having a baby becomes more real to me. We also have an infant care class in January and then our anesthesia class in early March.

I just thought I'd give everyone a quick update. Less than 100 days! Yikes!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Kapaldo family! Things have been going smoothly. Our baby is moving a lot lately. Jonathan and I spent a good deal of our Friday night staring at my belly, waiting for it to bump up where the baby was moving. We were quite entertained. It was a sweet time.

I thought I'd post a Christmas picture of Jonathan and I as well as an updated belly picture. Here I am at nearly 25 weeks.

Baby Bellies

This is a picture from an engagement party we threw for my brother's fiance. My cousin and I are both pregnant. We felt the need to take some belly pictures. She is due about a month after me. From the left we have: my aunt, my cousin, me, and my mom.

Busy Baby

Our baby has been making noticeable movements lately - at least noticeable to me. Last night as we were taking it easy and hanging out with my family the baby started kicking. This time Jonathan got to feel it. It was very neat. I'm looking forward to more active kicking/movement.

She thinks it's a...

We had our 18+ week ultrasound today. It lasted a good 10-15 minutes or so. The technician (not sure if that is what you call her) took a number of measurements and checked for a number of things. I didn't get to see much during this, which took maybe 10 minutes. Our due date is pretty much on target and our little one weighs in around 9 ounces. The technician then looked to see if she could tell us if we are having a boy or a girl. Well, our little one played shy. First of all, the baby was not facing the "camera". Second of all, the baby was sort of sitting Indian-style. Based on the little the technician could see, she thinks (let me emphasize the word "thinks") it is a GIRL. I'm not ready to stock up on pink and flowery clothes/curtains/sheets, but I am excited at the prospect of having a little girl.

False Alarm

So, sorry to keep everyone waiting. This past Thursday we were scheduled for a screening ultrasound where we would find out if we have a boy or a girl. I got a phone call Thursday morning around 10 informing me that the Doctor's office had made a mistake. Because I was 17 1/2 weeks they would have to wait one more week for the ultrasound. So, I am scheduled for this coming Thursday, November 1. We will keep you posted.

Mashed Potatoes and Grilled Cheese

So the other night as I was driving home I had an unfulfillable craving. I reminisced about a meal I often had at one of the dining halls in college: a grilled cheese sandwich with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. I expressed this craving to Jonathan. Well, for dinner tonight he made me mashed potatoes and grilled cheese. I was in comfort food heaven! It wasn't from the dining hall, but it was delicious nonetheless.

Jonathan's First Late Night Run

So, as some of you may know, I have been sick with a cold lately. It is a lingering cold that I hope is on its way out. Yesterday I was so frustrated that I decided we needed a humidifier. We first went to Target, but all of the units we would have considered appeared to have been returned. Next stop: WalMart. We purchased a unit from a not-so-well-known brand name.

Yes! We have a humidifier. Let's set it up. Well, little did we know that the directions required us to clean the unit with vinegar and then bleach before using it. We didn't have either. Jonathan made a quick stop to the grocery store to pick some up. Ok, now we are ready. Jonathan sets it up, plugs it in, and lets it "run" a bit before we head to bed. Well, I paid a visit to the bedroom and noticed that the machine was not making any noise and it did not appear anything was coming out of it. We concluded it wasn't working.

I decided to rough it and try to fall asleep. I will admit, I was a whiny baby and coughing up a storm. Next thing I know, Jonathan is on his way out to another grocery store before it closes. I think by now it was around 10:15 or so. A little while later (I'm not sure how long) I wake up to see Jonathan aiming our new working humidifier towards me. I have such a wonderful husband! I love you Jonathan!

What a Difference 3 1/2 Weeks Makes

We had another ultrasound done today. This one was quite involved. It was part of a prenatal screening process. It was amazing to see the difference between this ultrasound and the last one only 3 1/2 weeks ago. The technician needed to get profile views of our baby to take measurements. Our little one did not exactly cooperate the whole time. I didn't care, I liked watching. However, the technician wanted to get her job done and tried to coax the baby into moving by "tapping" me with the ultrasound instrument thing. Anyway, the measurements were taken, and we got quite a few new pictures.

I don't know if I'm seeing things, but it looks like the baby is sucking his/her thumb in this picture:

Here is a picture of our little one waving at the camera ;-)

We Have a Heartbeat

We had a very short appointment today. We went over test results from the last appointment. The Doctor concluded that I am boring, which is a good thing because there is nothing out of the ordinary ;-) The Doctor then looked for a heartbeat. It seemed to take a while to hear it - but that was just me freaking out, we heard it fine.

Oh, for those of you who are interested, we are between 11 and 12 weeks, which means that our baby is about 2 1/2 inches long. So, grab your chapstick - that is about 2 1/2 inches.

First Appointment

We had our first prenatal appointment on Friday, August 24. We first had an ultrasound followed by a visit with our new doctor.

The ultrasound was quite an experience. We were able to see so much even though we are not that far along. The woman performing the ultrasound was very nice. Based on her work she determined that our due date is March 31, 2008. This puts me nearly nine weeks along, and yet, we were able to see our baby's heart beat!

I am relieved to know that we chose a great doctor with a few clicks of a mouse button. I had only been seeing a general internal medicine doctor for my regular check-ups and needed to find an OB-GYN. I did numerous internet searches both of local hospitals and my insurance provider preferred directory to find a match. I ended up with Dr. O'Connor. He is very nice, extremely credible, very experienced, and easy to understand.

We are scheduled for another appointment in three weeks to hear our baby's heart beat. We will keep you posted!

Exciting News

Jonathan and I learned some exciting news on the morning of Thursday, August 2. This exciting news is the purpose of our new family blog. I took a little test that told us I was pregnant! I had had a feeling I was and convinced Jonathan to the point where he suggested we purchase a pregnancy test. Well, the results were in. I called Jonathan into the room to see it for himself. We took the test again on Friday morning just to be sure and the results were confirmed.
