Abigail's One Year Appointment

Abigail had her one year appointment today. She finally broke the 19 pound mark. She's a bit on the light side for little girls her age, but is right on track for her height. The Doctor confirmed that her ear infection is out of sight. Abigail looks to be in great health.

After the visit from the Doctor I had to entertain Abigail for 15 minutes or so before the Needle Nurse came in. Abigail had 3 vaccines this morning. Of course she didn't like being pricked, but once it was over she was fine.

The next stop was a lot of work for me. Abigail had some bloodwork done. The last time she had blood taken she was just a baby. I got to hold her in my arms while the Nurse took blood from her foot. Well, this time was a different story. I held Abigail on my lab with one arm across her chest holding her opposite hand while my other hand held her blood giving arm out by the wrist. Thankfully, these Nurses are pros at what they do and the blood was drawn in no time. The crying with this procedure lingered until we were out of the building ;-)

As I write this Abigail is sound asleep in bed. She's going on a one hour nap so far. Hopefully she will be bright eyed and bushy-tailed with memories of needles far from her mind!

Abigail is One!

Abigail turned one yesterday. It is hard to believe that a year ago Jonathan and I were holding a tiny baby in our arms wondering what we were getting ourselves into ;-) At least that may have been what I was thinking. It was bittersweet putting Abigail to bed last night. I feel like I can't call her my baby anymore-she's a big girl :-)

She started her big day by sleeping through the night! What a treat for all parties involved :-) Abigail had her breakfast while we watched home videos from the past year. The rest of the morning we got ready for her birthday festivities.

Thankfully Abigail got a quick nap in before guests arrived. I think she was a bit overwhelmed-we managed to fit almost 25 adults, 3 kids, and 3 little ones in our apartment. Soon after everyone made it to our place we sang "Happy Birthday" and let Abigail have her way with her own little birthday cake.

After cake we had to give Abigail a quick dunk in the tub-I don't think any number of baby wipes or paper towels could do the trick. Then Abigail helped her Mommy open her presents. Abigail has plenty of adorable spring/summer outfits and dresses.

Thanks to everyone for their happy birthday wishes. Thank you also to Grandma and Papa Kapaldo, Uncle Aaron, and Uncle Nate for making the drive up from Virginia to celebrate with us. Thanks also goes to Aaron for taking such great pictures of our celebration! Before we know it we'll be welcoming Baby #2 into the world and then will celebrate Abigail turning 2! Time flies by!

Another Heartbeat

I had my second prenatal appointment yesterday to hear Baby #2's heartbeat. Since I was only at 11 weeks and 3 days it took the Doctor a few moments to find it. He wasn't ready to give up because he didn't want me to worry waiting for an ultrasound in the event he couldn't find it. So far, so good!

I can't get over how many appointments I have coming up. I don't remember there being this many. The tricky part will be finding what to do with Abigail. Thankfully I have wonderful friends who have been more than happy to volunteer to help out. We are such a blessed family.

On another note, Abigail is doing much better. She is all done with her eye gel treatment (thank God!) and still has a few days of antibiotics for her ear infection. She should be all set for her first birthday which is coming up THIS Sunday! Yikes!

One for the Baby Book - Though We All Could Live Without It

Monday I came down with a bit of a cold. That's fine, I can handle a simple cold. Well, Monday night I spread the love and Abigail came down with a cold of her very own. The thing is, she doesn't handle it quite like Mommy does. She does not like the snot sucker/booger bulb and she certainly does not like having her nose wiped. Plus, who would like to have their temperature taken multiple times a day where the sun doesn't shine? Needless to say, Abigail isn't the happiest camper. Last night was much worse than Monday night. Abigail took naps all night and woke up every two hours or so. Her face was covered in tears and nose gunk. I felt so bad for her!

Anyway, Abigail has been tired all day, rubbing her nose and eyes all day, etc. Around noon her eyes got red and started watering and got gunky. We took a trip to the Doctor and found out that Abigail has her first-ever bout with Conjunctivitis and also her first Ear Infection.

Thankfully Abigail is sleeping soundly now. We elevated her head a bit, gave her antibiotics, gave her eye ointment, and lulled her to sleep. I cannot wait until this is over...I don't like seeing a sick baby. At least though she does give us an occasional smile:

Oh, and here is a picture I promised my Dad I'd post. Here is Abigail trying on her Papa's hat the day of her Auntie's Bridal Shower:

We're Expanding

The past 12 months have been such a change of pace for me and Jonathan. I left full-time work to be a stay-at-home mom and Jonathan gained full-time employment with a great organization. I have learned so much about myself and motherhood while raising Abigail with Jonathan. They say time goes by so fast, but there were some days that seemed to go on FOREVER ;-) Abigail and I had some really hard times, but the wonderful times have more than outweighed them. It has been a great year.

With all this said, Jonathan and I feel more equipped for what lies ahead. On or around October 11, 2009 we, God willing, will welcome another addition to the Kapaldo family! I found out I was 9 weeks and four days along on March 12, which takes me to the 10 week mark today. This is big news, and a bit overwhelming, but we know God will equip us and give us the strength (and energy) we need to raise "two under two".

Hats

It has been a long time since I've posted anything. This will be a crazy month with preparations for my sister's wedding in April (bridal shower, dress fittings, etc) and with Abigail's first birthday. Here are a few cute pictures of Abigail and two hats we put on her. Enjoy.
