Memories

My Mom has been really good about checking off items from her Day Zero list. Actually, she has three lists going right now. One of her newer items is to create a memory jar. Over the year, you can write down different experiences. On New Year's Eve you read over all of your memories from the year. I like this idea because you can be reminded of things that happened that you may not have taken photos of, or blogged about, or updated your Facebook status for. It turns out I had four Yankee Candles that were burned completely and I had been trying to think of things to do with them. Mom and I used two of them to collect our memories for 2012.

Here's a picture I took with my phone, followed by a regular picture so you can see it a bit better:

Oh, and a handy hint: to get the remaining wax out of your jar, place the jar in your freezer for 10 minutes or so. The wax shrinks up a bit and is easily removed from the bottom of your jar. I used kitchen scissors to break up the wax a bit more so it could fall right out of the jar.

Hopefully we can keep up with this so we have plenty of memories to read on New Year's Eve!

Love the idea of the memory jar. And since we love candles of all kinds...something is always in my freezer to get the wax off of. It does work.

Good idea! I bet it'll be a lot of fun to go through them at the end of the year. And thanks for the candle tip!

What a touching idea, I'm such a sap and always forget things. Going to set this in place.
