30 Weeks

Today marks the start of week 30 for us. We have 70 days left until our due date. To me 70 days sounds a lot longer than 10 weeks...but both are right around the corner! Time flies like crazy. Here is a 30 week belly picture:

Back to School - Day 2

Today's class didn't seem as jam-packed as yesterday's. Jonathan learned how to massage my back and we both learned different breathing techniques. We also learned about and saw a video about C-sections. I think the big learning experience for me was what happens post-labor. You see and hear about all the unpleasant things they don't tell you. And, because they were new to me, I'm not going to tell you either ;-)

I'm glad I took this class, but I'm sure I won't feel completely ready when labor and delivery time comes. I was talking to friends the other night and mentioned that having a baby is not like being at an amusement park. It's not like being in line for a crazy scary roller-coaster where you get closer and think, "maybe I'll pass on this one". One way or another, this baby has to come out!

Back to School - Day 1

Today was our first day of our childbirth class. The topics we covered today included the stages of labor, relaxation techniques, and breathing techniques. Sandwiched in between the relaxation technique and the two breathing techniques we learned was a labor video. Jonathan and I witnessed the edited births of three children. We both made it through with flying colors. This was a good test. I had seen labor videos before (one in the 7th grade and one about a month ago on a baby website). I wasn't sure what Jonathan's reaction would be - this was his first experience. He did great!

After the video we discussed it a bit. I am going to admit my silly ignorance now. I found out that, even if I choose to use an epidural, I will end up having to endure a bit of pain before and after the epidural. I can blame what happened next to these thoughts in my head, or the fact that it had been a number of hours since I had eaten, or the fact that I was sitting on the floor for quite a while. Long story short, I got extremely light-headed, hot, and felt like I was going to pass out. I was so embarrassed! But, after a few sips of apple juice and a bite of a few peanut butter crackers I was fine.

Our New Crib

Last week my parents and grandparents bought us a crib and mattress. We spent the week prepping the baby's room and put the crib together today! We rearranged the room a bit too, making room for a bookcase and a changing table that Jonathan's Dad is making.

Happy New Year!

Happy 2008 everyone! The new year marks just around 3 months left of our pregnancy. Things are coming into place. Our little one's Grandparents and Great-Grandparents purchased a crib and mattress for us this weekend. Jonathan and I have spent the last two days completing preparations in the baby's room and are looking forward to putting the crib together! Also, this month we have a few classes coming up. Next week we are taking an Infant Care class. In a few weekends we'll then take a two day (4 hours per day) Childbirth Education Class.

We had a great Christmas this year. We received a number of baby gifts. Some of our favorites will help our little one prepare for Hokie football season in the fall. Grandma and Papa Kapaldo gave our little one a nice Hokie outfit and Papa McEvoy gave our little one a children's book about the Hokie bird.
